The Greener Grocer is a grocery and social enterprise located in the historic North Market in Columbus, Ohio. We launched in 2008 with a mission to support regional and sustainable farmers and to make local foods more accessible to the Columbus community.
Along with our nonprofit partner Local Matters, we are helping to grow Ohio’s vibrant local food system by offering local, Ohio-grown and sustainably-produced products—both in the store and through Greener Grocer Market Bag subscriptions.

What makes us a social enterprise?
We aim to create social value, not just profit!
- We’re committed to supporting local family farms by paying a fair price for their goods.
- We work to provide more healthy foods at local food pantries, by making regular donations to Clintonville Beechwold Community Resource Center and Food Not Bombs.
- No waste—all of our compost is used by farmers, gardeners, and homesteaders in the community.
And finally, we are the proud partner of Local Matters, connecting their community programs about healthful, local food directly to Ohio farms and farmers. A portion of our annual proceeds goes to support their efforts in transforming our food system.
